Religious Trauma and the Church

For many people, and especially those within the LGBTQ+ community, the church is a very traumatic place; and the source of many peoples' mental illnesses. The church used to be a huge source of trauma for me, and the way I was able to get over that (besides with the help of Jesus) was by basically starting over and learning about Christianity again on my own with fresh eyes. I let go of everything I was taught when I was younger and I just saw the bible with my own eyes. I found a translation that I could understand (I use the Good News Translation US version), and I found a preacher that I believed was genuine and truly cared about his congregation (I watch Steven Furtick online). I took the time to experience God on my own and gain my own personal relationship with Him. I never wanted my relationship with Him to be diluted because of people ever again.

I want you all to know that God does not condone or agree with the church creating trauma for His people. God is love. And God only wants love and joy flowing through His people and in His churches. God will condemn those who use His name to create harm and torment in people's lives. God loves you and He wants what's best for you. You'll be able to get through this. You just gotta believe <3.

“Do not use my name for evil purposes, for I, the Lord your God, will punish anyone who misuses my name.

My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.

1 John 3:18 GNTD

Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.
